january obsessions.

The month of January can always seem a bit dull. To keep from having the cold weather, post-holiday blues, I've been taking joy in a few indulgences. Here are just a few.

bulldog and the city.

We took advantage of the long weekend and showed Bentley around her city, which she quite loved (note last picture below). She's growing to love Kansas City as much as we do.

la pura vida.

Now that the holidays are over, and cold weather doesn't serve any purpose (other than having an excuse for wearing scarves and boots), I've been thinking about our trip to Costa Rica. Just a year ago today we were lounging on the beach, sipping mono sucios. Here are a few shots from our time living la pura vida - the "pure life." No clocks, no obligations, no worries - Costa Ricans sure know how to live.

{Is there any better feeling?}

{Found a bar covered in stuffed monkeys. This little guy was my favorite.}

cranberry margaritas.

In an attempt to cleanse for the New Year, I've found it better to ease into it by adding a little retox to the detox. This is my favorite addition so far, and great for those leftover holiday cranberries. Original recipe found here. ¡Salud!

                                                       You'll need:
            • 3/4 cup 100% cranberry juice
            • 1/2 cup sugar, divided
            • 1 1/2 cups (6 oz) fresh or thawed cranberries
            • 3/4 cup fresh lime juice (or 5-6 limes)
            • 3/4 cup tequila!
            • 1/2 cup orange liqueur (or orange juice)

      1. Pour the cranberry juice into the blender, reserving 1 Tbsp in a bowl.
      2. Sprinkle 3 Tbsp sugar onto a small plate.
      3. Use the cranberry juice to coat the rims of 4 to 6 glasses (6 to 8 oz each) and then dip the glasses into the sugar. Fill with ice and set aside.
      4. Reserve 12 cranberries and place the rest in the blender along with the sugar, lime juice, tequila, and orange liqueur. Blend until smooth.
      5. Pour the strained margarita into glasses and garnish with reserved berries and leftover lime slices.
      6. Enjoy!
